Spinning My Wheel

Last summer I bought a spinning wheel. Marie was upgrading to a fancier one, and needed a home for her Louet S17. In some mad fit I bought it, and it has sat collecting dust in my living room ever since. And then, today, on a spur of the moment, Patty came over and taught me how to spin. Just like that.

Well, to be honest, I'm not sure if what I was doing qualifies as anything more than playing with roving. Mostly it was me spinning the wheel in the wrong direction, or overtwisting, or - there was lots of this - undertwisting, or...well, you get the idea. But, for two brief moments, things clicked. My hands felt it. It was magic.

Today I also signed up for Mystery Stole 3, thanks to Mary's tip off. This is my first "mystery" KAL, and it sounds like a lot of fun. I also have the right yarn in stash - JaggerSpun Zephyr in Ebony - which clinched the deal. Between this and my Gothic Leaves, t'will be the summer o' lace chez Knitdevil.

I've gotten off my duff, and the CPH hood is almost finished. After discussing it with Patty - knitting friends are the greatest! - I'm doing a 3-needle bindoff on it; grafting can wait for another day. I'm omitting buttons, too, in an attempt to move things along. This sweater, it just needs to be done.

Now, however, I have to go play with my spinning wheel. Happy weekend!

*giggle* I'm glad to see it's getting some use finally. Once it clicks, look out, it's extremely addicting, and now I'm finding that so is drop spindling.

Yay for spinning... finally. *grin* I'm glad you're cranking on your CPH. We'll probably finish on time and have to do a twinsies CPH photo shoot.

YIPPIE!! I replied to your email asking if you had a spindle or wheel before I saw your new blog post. I'm so excited you have a wheel, not that the spindle is bad, but because you're more likely to get hooked on spinning with a wheel (in my experience). If you "got it" for a few brief moments your first time, then you must be a natural and will excell. Can't wait to see your stuff.

Oh, and congrats on CPH almost being done. Mine seems to have stalled out.

Yay for spinning! My gosh, I always get so inspired when I see the beautiful spinning of others, I will *so* have to try it too one day! Good luck with yours!

Spinning?! Oh no! I see a new fiber addiction coming. Better go buy more bins!

Good luck with that spinning thing! Just what you need, more yarn... I have officially no more room for any more -- I went a little nuts at Black Sheep a couple of weeks ago and finally got it all put away yesterday. And good luck with the kitty. Mine has just decided that under the bed is not so hot.

Glad you found your knit-MoJo!
Ooooo....spinning....excellent! Can't wait to see a few of the combinations you spin.

Yes, knitting/crochet friends are the greatest. I've decided (at my advanced age) that the only NEW friends I need better know how to knit/crochet, otherwise, I'm just not interested! Hah!

You have a wheel! I am a novice spinner, only using spindles thus far- I haven't yet delved into the wheel territory.. yet!
